Scope and Contents
The manuscript consists of 30 pieces for lute, some dances, some song tunes, mostly Scottish, but including William Basse`s
`Hunter`s Career` (folios 18 verso-19). It includes an introduction giving a history of the original manuscript, some explanation of lute
tablature, and a list of the original contents.
Robert Gordon`s original manuscript is now lost.

MSS.21784-21790 are numbered at the front, and the contents of MSS.21784-21785, 21787-21792 are preceded by contents lists, all apparently in the same hand.
From the four dates visible, the collection would appear to have been in the possession of the Misses Douglas about or somewhat before the mid-19th century.
